HIV+Monaco was an international conference held in Monaco in January 2008 bringing together 40 key leaders within the networks of people living with HIV (PLHIV).
The conference’s main goal was to provide a unique and innovative opportunity for the movement of people living with HIV to reflect on how it could improve knowledge and information exchange, as well as improve the collaboration among groups of people living with HIV at country, regional and global levels.
HIV+Monaco was hosted by Her Serene Highness Princess Stephanie of Monaco in her role of Founding President of Fight Aids Monaco (F.A.M.) and UNAIDS Special Representative.
Participants to HIV+Monaco were selected by the Living 2008 partnership from international, national and community level networks and organizations of people living with HIV. This conference provided an unique opportunity for these key leaders within the networks of people living with HIV internationally to discuss relevant technical issues; devise mechanisms for implementing ongoing consultations around these issues; and to undertake preparations for LIVING 2008, including finalizing format, content, facilitators and speakers.
HIV+ Monaco focused on four different themes:
- Universal access to treatment, care and support
- Prevention, and particularly Positive Prevention
- Criminalisation of HIV transmission
- Sexual and reproductive rights of people living with HIV
From January to July 2008, HIV+Monaco is followed by an e-consultation with people living with HIV in countries to further develop content and gather evidence of best practice and lessons learnt for discussion at LIVING 2008.
Four working groups have been organized each steering the consultation on one theme, keeping in mind such issues as the situation of women and vulnerable groups; and stigma and discrimination.
This investment in people living with HIV aims to provide a long-lasting infrastructure for the PLHIV networks and partners to consult with people living with HIV on important strategic issues.
